Enchanting full moon

At sunset it was too cloudy to see the biggest full moon of the year. Disappointed, we went out for sushi, but when we left the restaurant an hour or so later she was visible! The clouds were racing past her, covering her from time to time - it was all very dramatic and stormy. We tried several places to get a good shot, but it's difficult in the dark with sporadic street lighting. Finally settled on this picture taken looking over the salt pond near our home. The camera didn't do it justice, but we'll have our memories of its exceptional brightness, especially in contrast to the fast moving clouds.

Help

thanks for this ingebrita - I love the reflection in the water. We saw the moon fleetingly through the clouds. It looked hazy - the rain didn’t seem to stop all night, but I will look tonight to see if “she” is any clearer. Beautiful….
Thanks! I’ll check tonight, too. Almost full or just past full is just as pretty. I had hoped to catch her earlier, and closer to the horizon… maybe tonight!
NASA says on its website about moon illusion:
Sky watchers have known this for thousands of years: moons hanging low in the sky look unnaturally big. Cameras don’t see it, but our eyes do. It’s a real illusion.
That would sort of explain why the camera didn’t seem to capture the size of the moon we were observing.
Taikunping kindly sent me your way to take a peep at your lunar photography. I very much like it! The simple line of symmetry between the body and its reflection is really quite wonderful. It is a very mysterious, ethereal photograph all together.
Thanks for sharing it!
Lovely shot! I take pics with my phone camera every full moon [almost], at the same angle; and it doesn’t have a tele lens. So when I compared the pictures, this one was definitely larger!
here’s one I took: http://meenakshi.gaia.com/photos/view/461354
Thank you, Tharlam, for your very kind words… (blog seems to be working now)
Thank you, Meenakshi, for your beautiful picture and perspective! Maybe next month I will go to the same spot and see what size moon my camera finds. :)
Enchanting indeed…
Thank you, Denim!
