I am a weed by the wall...

Our moods do not believe in each other. To-day I am full of thoughts, and can write what I please. I see no reason why I should not have the same thought, the same power of expression, to-morrow. What I write, whilst I write it, seems the most natural thing in the world; but yesterday I saw a dreary vacuity in this direction in which now I see so much; and a month hence, I doubt not, I shall wonder who he was that wrote so many continuous pages. Alas for this infirm faith, this will not strenuous, this vast ebb of a vast flow! I am God in nature; I am a weed by the wall.

Help

Like your Emerson quote and picture….When we write, we are flowing and full of life, creativity and freedom
Thank you… the tide comes in and the tide goes out…and creativity always returns…
I often wondered how my sister was able to write beautiful poetry. She said the poem just came to her.
Wow! how was that possible? I thought one had to create it.
After I suffered a brain injury, I found that the creative muses would visit me when I least expected it. You have that one moment to capture “it”. It can never be re-created. They come, they go. What a lovely surprise. Like a beautiful flower springing up unexpectedly.
Thanks for a lovely blog piece. (((hugs))
mimi, thank you! I know Emerson’s writing is a bit old-fashioned for some tastes, but I feed off of his words about writing, nature, philosophy, life. It’s nice to know that creative geniuses we admire have also felt blocked at times, too. Wonder is discovered in the most unexpected places. Your comment made me think of what Joan Baez once said about writing songs.
It seems to me that those songs that have been any good, I have nothing much to do with the writing of them. The words have just crawled down my sleeve and come out on the page. ~ Joan Baez
My fav… I needed this today… thanks!
You’re very welcome!
