Beech Forest Trail...

One of the things we did on our anniversary was take a walk on Beech Forest Trail at Cape Cod National Seashore. It felt so peaceful and invigorating being out in the salty fresh air and filtered sunlight... At one point a little chickadee flew very close to me and landed on a branch at eye-level, just inches from me. I put out my hand but he declined to land on it, disappointed because I had no seeds for him. But he stayed close and talked to me for a bit, posing for pictures on his little branch. Unfortunately the pictures came out blurry! However, a little farther along the trail, someone had put out a few seeds for the birds on a stump, but an adorable red squirrel was hogging that feast! He wouldn't pose for my camera, but didn't mind if I got close and tried to get a few shots with the "children and pets" setting. I'm now thinking perhaps the chickadee was asking me to shoo the red squirrel away from the seeds...

Help

Barbara,
I think you are a wise and wonderful woman. I enjoyed every ounce of this blog. Yes, I think that the chickadee WAS asking you to shoo the red squirrel away from the seeds. Too cute! I also like to extend my hand in the hopes that chickadees will indulge me and sit for a second or two, but no luck yet.
Delightful blog. I endorse this!
Hugs!

Always get connected with you through your blogs, dear Barbara… and sometimes can connect your life events to some of mine… in simple things… My friend in DC here http://starchild77.gaia.com/photos/view/503277
Lovely story… Hugs…
So beautiful. I feel I can just reach out and stroke the perky one!
Hi Susan, and thank you! Next time I take a walk in the woods I'm going to bring a little bit of bird seed with me, just in case! When I saw the documentary the Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill the filmmaker said her grandfather used to feed chickadees from his hand when she was a little girl. I hope to be prepared for the moment when it arrives some day and I hope that soon you will get one to sit on your hand for a little while, too…
Dearest Lili, what a wonderful time you must have had sharing that bagel with your darling little squirrel friend in DC! It's those simple little joys that make life so magical and precious… I'm glad we share so many of them.
Oh Meenakshi, I was so tempted to reach out farther and touch him, but didn't dare risk crossing whatever boundary he felt comfortable with, he was so unbelievably close. I've never been so close to one, or even interacted with one before, always watching from a distance as they would feed at my father's bird feeders.
Hugs to all of you!!!
