"Unhealthy for sensitive groups..."

Posted on Aug 18th, 2009 by ingebrita : seeker ingebrita

That's the Weather Channel's assessment of the air quality here today.  Add a high pollen count and it looks like another day inside.  Augusts are never easy for me...

But I'm making the best of it.  Yesterday while doing my Reiki I started thinking about a book I bought at the Book Barn a few months ago, Wellsprings of the Deer by Montague Whitsel.  On the cover was a picture of a stag standing in a winter forest with a body of water behind him, no doubt a wellspring, and since Deer is my animal spirit guide I judged the used book by its striking cover and brought it home.  But I've been too busy and overwhelmed to read it.  So yesterday I started reading it between loads of laundry and had a hard time putting it down to get back to work.  I know nothing about Celtic spirituality, but I was delighted to learn that deer represent seekers!  And wellsprings are "symbolic of hidden psychic treasures and the spiritual depths of life itself."  And so I begin my exploration of another segment of my spiritual journey.

Oh Gael, it is amazing…  and amazing that no matter how much we've learned there is always more to discover!  I've been learning about Reiki energy and now here I learn the Celts were tuned into it as well.  Their word for the energy of the universe was Shunnache.  I love all the connections!

Isn't it wonderful to find a new book, and discover some new things, ideas, energy, perception, wisdom. It is good to take time from chores and spend time with a book

It is wonderful, mimi! I always wondered why the first day of summer was called midsummer. Now I know that the Celtic summer started May 1 and ends July 31, so it makes sense to call June 21 midsummer. By their calendar it is now autumn but it sure doesn't feel like autumn here, except that some crops are being harvested. And spring starts February 1 - it's still cold and snowy then here, but that is the time to see newborn lambs and baby seals out in Long Island Sound. New beginnings - a whole new way to look at the cycles of nature.

Good for you Barb…it really does sound mighty exciting, I am most happy for you! (and I am happy you got out of laundry duty even if for a little while!)

A good book always racks up the chores with the last page on its way!

Hey there, lady with the clean floors!  This staying inside isn't turning out too badly this year thanks to all the reading material I squirreled away the rest of the year - I'm now in the middle of book upstairs, another one downstairs, and another one in the car.
And wow!  Have I missed a lot of things on your blog!  I'm off to try and catch up with you - more reading material - yay!
